As we prepare for the 2026โ2027 school year, East Hamilton High School remains dedicated to fostering a safe, focused, and positive learning environment for all students. To support our academic goals and community expectations, we are sharing updated policies regarding dress code, attendance and tardiness, and cellular device usage.
Please review the policy summaries below, along with the linked documentation for full details.
1. 2026โ2027 EHHS Dress Code Policy
Student dress should reflect an atmosphere of learning and mutual respect. Attire that is distracting or disrespectful to the educational environment is prohibited.
Key Dress Code Highlights:
- Shirts/Tops: Shirts must have sleeves and be appropriate without rips, holes, or low cuts. Tank tops, see-through materials, backless tops, and bare midriffs are not allowed. Only the top two buttons may be unbuttoned on collared shirts.
- Pants/Shorts: Must not contain graphics, writing, rips, or holes. Shorts must come no higher than 3 inches above the knee and should not be rolled up. Leggings, yoga pants, jeggings, spandex, sweatpants, athletic shorts, overalls, cargos, and sagging are strictly prohibited.
- Skirts/Dresses: Skirts and dresses are not allowed unless approved by the administration for religious practices/beliefs.
- Outerwear: Vests, quarter-zips, crewneck sweatshirts, and sweaters may be worn indoors. Coats, full-zip jackets, hooded sweatshirts, and jean jackets are not permitted inside the building.
- Footwear: Shoes must cover the entire foot; sandals, flip-flops, Crocs, clogs, heels, and house slippers are not permitted.
- Accessories: Hats, caps, bandanas, head wraps, blankets, and sunglasses are prohibited in the building. Backpacks, book bags, and purses are not allowed in classrooms.
- Enforcement: Starting August 14, dress code violations result in immediate placement in In-School Suspension (ISS) while offense history is reviewed. The first two days of school serve as a grace period for norming expectations.
2. 2026โ2027 EHHS Attendance & Tardy Policy
Academic success relies on regular attendance and being ready to learn on time.
Key Attendance & Tardy Highlights:
- Tardy Increments & Reset: Tardy counts reset quarterly at the start of each nine-week grading period. Arriving late to 1st period requires signing in through the Raptor system.
- Tardy Consequences: Consequences range from teacher warnings (1st occurrence) and parent contact (3rd occurrence) to administrative referrals, including 2-day ISS and loss of exam exemption (4th occurrence), 5-day ISS and loss of driving privileges (5th occurrence), and OSS or extracurricular loss for subsequent infractions.
- Truancy: A student is considered truant upon their 4th unexcused absence. Missing more than half the school day without an approved excuse counts as an unexcused absence.
- Phase-In Timeline:
- August 5 & 6 (Welcome & Orientation): Grace period with teacher-student conversations on timeliness expectations.
- August 10โ14 (Transition Week): Doors will be locked when the bell rings; late students without a pass report to the Middle Compass.
- Monday, August 17 (Full Enforcement): Strict adherence to logging tardies across all classes.
3. 2026โ2027 EHHS Cell Phone Policy
To eliminate classroom distractions and promote well-being, EHHS enforces strict cell phone guidelines aligned with district and state expectations.
Key Cell Phone Highlights:
- Scope: The policy applies to cell phones, cellular-capable devices, and peripheral smart technology (e.g., smartwatches, headphones, earbuds, smart eyewear).
- Storage Requirement: Once inside the school building, phones must be stowed on silent mode in the student’s assigned, locked locker. Devices are strictly prohibited from being on a student’s person, in classrooms, hallways, or restrooms.
- Compliance & Liability: Neither HCDE nor EHHS assumes liability for lost, stolen, or damaged devices. Students must surrender devices immediately upon request; refusal results in immediate suspension.
- Parent Communication: Parents/guardians are asked not to text or call students on cell phones during instructional hours. Emergency contacts must go through the main office, attendance office, or nurse’s office. Parents can also email students on their district Chromebooks.
We appreciate our families and students partnering with us to ensure a safe, efficient, and successful school year!
